Too Good To Go

I designed a new feature for a food saving platform, giving users the ability to share surprise bags with friends, family, or those in need.

By extending the experience beyond individual use, the feature brings more joy to gifting, strengthens community connection, and furthers the mission of reducing food waste together.

Problem

Problem

Problem

Too Good To Go currently allows users to order surprise bags only for themselves. However, many users expressed a desire to send or purchase bags for others, highlighting a gap in the platform’s ability to support gifting, sharing, or community-driven use.

This led our team to ask: How might we design a thoughtful experience for users to purchase a Surprise Bag for someone else, while maintaining a smooth and consistent experience throughout the app.

Brighten someone’s day with the new Reserve-a-Bag feature! Whether it’s a family member or a friend in need, you can now reserve a Surprise Bag on their behalf.

Join Too Good To Go’s mission to reduce food waste while offering a thoughtful gesture to someone who could use it.

Bag Recipient Flow

Bag Recipient Flow

Starting with a clear notification, the recipient is guided through accepting the gift, viewing details about the bag, and confirming pickup. The design emphasizes making it easy for users to understand what they’ve been gifted, when and where to collect it, and how to redeem it.

Subtle cues, such as celebratory visuals and clear next steps, were incorporated to make the process feel personal and rewarding, strengthening both the giver’s and recipient’s connection to the brand, and evoking a feeling of simplicity, warmth, and transparency.

Donating a Bag

This flow was designed to extend Too Good To Go’s mission of reducing food waste by adding a social impact layer: enabling users to donate surprise bags directly to local charities or individuals in need.

The process guides users through selecting a donation option, choosing how many bags to give, and receiving confirmation that their contribution has been allocated.

Outcomes

Outcomes

By allowing customers to reserve a bag for someone else, we expanded the pool of potential new users, while continuing to promote TGTG’s mission of reducing food waste.

Our feature design of reserving a bag for someone allows for non-users to benefit from the service that Too Good To Go provides. This feature also allows for TGTG customers to offer a thoughtful gesture to both other users and non-users.
